One of the reasons is the chemical filters from sunscreens that end up in the water every year. We have created an alternative that allows you to tan without harming nature and without compromising your skin.
Corals that lose their color: why this matters for everyone
Corals are living organisms that form huge barrier reefs. They purify the ocean, provide shelter to thousands of marine species, and maintain a natural balance.
But for the last few decades, the world has been observing the phenomenon of bleaching — this is when corals turn white and lose their ability to thrive. This is influenced by various factors: rising ocean temperatures, pollution, as well as chemical substances from sunscreens that enter the water.
How SPF creams harm the ocean
Not everyone knows, but chemical filters from SPF creams can dissolve in water just minutes after swimming. They settle on the sea surface as a thin, oily film.
Some of these components:
- slow down coral growth,
- trigger their bleaching,
- interfere with the normal reproduction of marine organisms,
- accumulate in fish and return to humans through the food chain.
Every year, up to 14,000 tons of sunscreen enter the oceans — this is a massive burden on the marine ecosystem.
Our solution: smart swimsuits with built-in SPF protection
We are not telling people to stop protecting their skin — on the contrary, that is vital. But we found a way to do it more sustainably.
Our swimsuits are made from an innovative mesh that allows for tanning while having built-in SPF protection:
- SPF 50 — in bikini models
- SPF 35 — in one-piece models
This means that for most beach activities, you don't need to apply cream to the areas covered by the swimsuit. Less cream — fewer chemical filters in the water — more chances for corals to recover.
It is a small action for one person, but a big one for the ocean.
